Mask (2008)

Mask is a piece that has developed over several years, remaining in the workshop and being returned to periodically. It is largely composed of forged elements, hand made on the anvil. It is bound by welded steel which is then carvedto achieve the surface texture. Mask reflects David Freedman's strong interest in the legacy of history and was part of a series of pieces inspired by The Campaigns of Alexander by Arrian, though the piece is not intended as a portrait.
